William White has published The Rhetoric of Recovery Advocacy: An Essay On the Power of Language, an essay that discusses the role of language characterizing substance abuse in the recovery process. The essay also identifies the language we use now and contrasts it against language that White states promotes recovery. One example is replacing Relapse Prevention with Recovery Enhancement or Developing Recovery Capital. White also suggests replacing Self-Help with Recovery Support or Mutual Aid. You can see the list of words here, or read the full essay here.
